I have always loved Western tradition classical music.   My earliest memories are from around age three when I played with toys while my sister took her piano lessons.  At age four, when she lost her enthusiasm for the piano, I found my way to the bench and began to play "her" pieces.  My parents decided perhaps lessons were worth a try.

A decade or so later, I was winning youth competitions, gradually making my way up the scale of success, eventually landing at  the Tchaikovsky Conservatory followed by the Gnessin Institute of Moscow.
